Mosquito season is fast approaching. Dormant during winter months, mosquitoes become active in spring. While activity peaks during summer months, it tapers off in the fall.
The City of Irving takes mosquito control very seriously. Trapping has begun across the city’s 27 trap and spray locations. No mosquitoes have tested positive this year for West Nile or Saint Louis encephalitis. However, when they do test positive, Irving’s vector control technicians spray at night.
Zika virus has gained much attention over the last several months. While no Zika transmissions have been attributed to mosquitoes identified in Texas, the City of Irving has taken additional precautions. The city recently purchased and located traps specially designed to attract the species of mosquito that carries the Zika virus.
