The Irving Advisory Committee on Disabilities sponsors an annual Disabilities Poster Contest in recognition of Disabilities Awareness Month. The contest is open to all fourth graders in the Irving Independent School District (IISD), private schools and home-schooled children within Irving. The contest designed to encourage students to artistically express how a person with disabilities can use his or her strengths and abilities as part of our community.
Poster entries will be accepted in the Parks and Recreation office at City Hall, 825 W. Irving Boulevard, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28, through Monday, Sept. 10. View the Poster Contest Rules and Guidelines (PDF). Entry deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 10.
Members of the Advisory Committee on Disabilities will judge poster entries. Winners will be recognized by the Mayor and City Council at the Oct. 4 City Council meeting.
The annual poster contest provides fourth graders with an opportunity to showcase artistic talents as they express how a person with disabilities can use his or her abilities to be part of the community.
