Summer Reading - Kids

On Your Mark... Get Set... READ!

Did you know your child can boost their reading skills this summer by spending 20 minutes reading every day? Not only will their reading skill stay strong, but you may see an improvement in their grades next year!

Irving Public Library is here to help! Our Summer Reading Challenge starts June 1 and ends July 31.

Pick up a reading log at your local school or any of the four library locations to participate. Kids can earn prizes each week for reading, or being read to, for 20 minutes a day during the Challenge.  After every seven days of reading, bring your reading log to any Irving Library location between June 7 and Aug. 31 to receive awards which include mood pencils, free books, swim passes, coupons, a reading medal and public recognition on the Wall of Fame.

Your child may read anything and anywhere! No library card is required to be a part of the reading challenge.

Great Summer Activities at the Library

Along with the reading challenge, the library offers free summer activities throughout June and July, including live animals, magic shows, puppet shows, sports, games, crafts and music.

Summer time activities happen at 2:30 p.m. on the following days at these locations:
  • Mondays - East Branch Library, 440 S. Nursery Road
  • Tuesdays - West Irving Library, 4444 W. Rochelle Road
  • Wednesdays - Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail
